Today I only half planned my day. I know when I fail to plan, I plan to fail. I haven’t grocery shopped in a bit so I’m out of my quick and convenient healthy foods. I woke up and had oatmeal and berries for breakfast and prepped a protein smoothie to take to work – so far so good. Then 12:15 came and I was out…. I am so used to being prepared that I began to have scattered thoughts about what to do next.
I paused, reflected on what I wanted (food) and what would give me the best energy for the rest of the day (not poutine even though that’s what I REALLY wanted). I decided that I would walk up to Perfection. Satisfaction. Promise. to get some lunch to go. This adorable place is a vegetarian restaurant across from Ottawa U and is always full. The food is so healthy (well you can choose poutine and other not so healthy items – but you have a CHOICE for healthy food). I grabbed some tofu/steamed veggies and brown rice to take back to work. This is not something I do often because a healthy lunch like this costs $10 and to do it everyday would be more financially stressfull than healthy – but if I’m going to eat out I might as well choose healthy.
When I got to work with my uber healthy lunch I decided to eat mindfully and check out a colleague’s blog. She started a blog and personal simple living challenge on January 1st of this year called Pure and Simple Living. It’s been great to read and motivating for me in terms of blogging more about the small but important choices that I make everyday as I strive for regular and consistent self-care. So thank you dear colleague for being my lunch time self-care AND inspiration. Also, I mindfully paid attention to my hunger level and stopped eating as soon as I felt content – so as to not feel tired and full for the afternoon. Now I have leftovers for dinner or lunch tomorrow – even better!
What small choices did you make today that lead to a healthier you?
