This week I decided to write about a topic that is near and dear to my heart – the Standards of Self Care for Helping Professionals. I came across a great resources that outlines structured standards for self-care. I am also honoured to be writing this as my first guest post for The Social Work Helper Community.
As helping professionals, we know that self-care is important. The Green Cross Academy of Traumatology has actually created standards of self-care for it’s members who work with trauma survivors.
The purpose of these standards are to ensure that you “do no harm to yourself” and to ensure you give the best quality of service to those you are working with.
The standards are comprehensive and this week I reviewed the Ethical Principles of Self Care Practice and the Standards of Humane Practice of Self Care.
I’ve had the honour of writing about this very important topic for the Social Work Helper community, however, the content is relevant for anyone who works with people who have experienced trauma.
